Casa Cookers had a real treat yesterday!
Delicious shrimp balls in a wonderful tomatoe sauce with chayote, nopales and potatoes, both seasoned with garlic and coriander seeds. Along side Bety served up portobello mushrooms stuffed with refried beans and topped with cheese. Another great class full of information and techniques to help you bring authentic Mexican cooking to your own kitchen!

We loaded up the car and started out to find the best vendors of FOOD in Jaltemba Bay! First stop Fruiteria y Verduras Varillas in Guayabitos where Maria offered samples of her delicious fruits; then on to Pancho at the Carniceria in LaPenita. He makes his own chorizo and will get you any cut of meat you want. The bacon looks amazing! Next was the Cremeria inside Varillas in LaPenita (yes, same family!) for samples of cheese including a delicious hard cheese similar to Parmesan. On to Alvorado’s where Mari helped us with their incredible array of bulk foods. Last stop: the Pescadores on the river in LaPenita. Be sure to get there early in the mornings for the best selection of fish, shrimp and langusta! Back at the Casa, we finished up our day with Bety’s special Guacamoles and Glen’s famous Margaritas! Be sure and check our schedule for upcoming classes!
We have Twin Sisters who are Chefs coming to Casa Cooking in April!
One Special Class will give us insights into new ways with our local Mexican ingredients!
